Schiller International University was founded in 1964 as Schiller College by Dr. Walter Leibrecht in Kleiningersheim Castle, overlooking the Neckar River, in Southern Germany. Dr. Leibrecht established a traditional American Study Abroad program in Germany with English as the language of instruction. American students were given the opportunity to experience life and studies in Europe for one or two semesters, or for the duration of an entire degree program.

Advanced standing and credit will be granted to new students who have attained proficiency in English, French, German or Spanish as a foreign language. At the beginning of every semester, each campus administers examinations in English, French, German and Spanish to students who qualify to take the exams.
